Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift exercise

The dumbbell Romanian deadlift is a hip-hinge exercise that targets the hamstrings, glutes, and lower back. It’s excellent for building posterior chain strength with a slightly lighter load and greater control than a barbell RDL.

How to perform Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift

  1. Stand with your feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs.
  2. Keep a slight bend in your knees and hinge at the hips to lower the dumbbells down your legs.
  3. Keep your back straight and core engaged as you feel a stretch in your hamstrings.
  4. Lower the dumbbells until you feel tension, then drive your hips forward to return to standing.
  5. Avoid rounding your back throughout the movement.
  6. Repeat for the desired number of reps.

Use controlled movement and an appropriate variation for your current ability. Stop if an exercise causes sharp pain, and seek qualified guidance when needed.
